Sexual and Reproductive Health Matters vs SWOP USA

Sexual and Reproductive Health Matters (SRHM) promotes sexual and reproductive health and rights globally through our open-access journal and advocacy.

SWOP USA is a national grassroots social justice network dedicated to the fundamental human rights of sex workers and their communities. The organization focuses on ending violence and stigma through education, community building, and advocacy. It is led by sex workers, with a particular emphasis on Black and transgender leadership, connecting diverse communities to vital resources.

The network operates through local volunteers and regional chapters across the United States, addressing issues such as stigma, criminalization, and marginalization faced by sex workers. SWOP USA engages in intersectional activism, recognizing how race, class, gender, and other social categorizations interact to affect members of the sex worker community.

SWOP USA stands in solidarity with various social justice movements, including Black Lives Matter, disability rights, drug and immigration reform, gender equality, LGBTQIA2S+ rights, and working-class advocacy. The organization promotes the message that sex work is work and demands rights and respect rather than sympathy.

Since its founding in 2003 in the Bay Area, SWOP USA has grown into a national network that supports sex workers through peer support, community outreach, media engagement, allied collaborations, and direct action. It also honors the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers on December 17th, providing multilingual resources and event support.

The mission of SWOP USA is to build a safer, more inclusive world for sex workers by breaking down systemic barriers and advocating for policies that recognize and respect their rights and dignity. The organization commits to transparency, collaboration, and dedication to social justice in all its efforts.
